The beach of Ostional is the setting for a rarely-seen biological wonder. During the rainy season, in the week before the new moon, hundreds—sometimes even hundreds of thousands—of sea turtles arrive at this specific mile of beach to lay their eggs in the black volcanic sand.

While turtles nest at Ostional year-round, the peak season is during the rainy months. From August through December, arribadas (mass nesting events) occur regularly, sometimes even twice a month, with nesting females numbering in the hundreds of thousands compared to tens of thousands during the dry season. Over a five-day arribada, up to 10 million eggs may be deposited on the beach.

Embark on an excursion within Marino las Baulas National Park and enjoy the chance to observe a variety of bird species, including Blue Herons, Tricolored Herons, Night Herons, Hawks, and Fishing Eagles. As we navigate through the estuary by boat, you’ll also spot American Crocodiles, Iguanas, and Squirrels while learning about the mangrove ecosystem.
